Not just another New Year!

01 Jan

Happy new year!
Please don’t make resolutions. Not much can be said about your resolve, don’t bother looking back at 2014 we know you got an F for self-control.
So it’s a new year and you wanna make a difference. You don’t wanna be the same old Kay who lied, cheated, was dishonest, spread malicious gossip, was a lazy procrastinator who never got anything done, whose only hustle was money for pocket back for ground, who drank and smoked like the apocalypse was near and who only remembered God when cussing or in a near death experience… (Pick a struggle)
The thing is, we slept and woke up or danced into or prayed into the new year and even though the date says January 1st 2015 it could be July 29th 2013 judging by the way you feel (chops and holiday aside). So how can you make this year different without trying to do the same old- obviously not working stuff you have been doing all your adult life?
(Listen carefully for I shall say this only once!)
1. He loves you just the way you are!
I was reading the book of Matthew chapter 1 today and something awesome struck me about the genealogy (family tree) of Jesus Christ. There were 42 generations before Christ which means 42 dads and 42 mums and guess how many women featured in the story? Five!!! Not the five kind of women you would ordinarily expect to be in the Messiah’s lineage.
– The first Tamar was a badass hustler, her father in law tried to con her and she used what she had to get what she wanted if you know what I mean 😉 Genesis 38:6-14
– The second Rahab was a prostitute and a foreigner who aided and abetted spies-  That’s a federal offence, go figure! Joshua 2:1-13
– The third Ruth was a widow who wasnt considered very smart by her peers cos she stuck with her poor mother in law after her husband died but babe showed herself later when she came into town and married the most eligible bachelor there using unconventional seduction- don’t hate the player, hate the game! She has a whole book of the bible dedicated to her: Ruth
– The fourth Bathsheba was an adulterous woman whose husband (Uriah) was murdered by her lover who happened to be the king! Did I hear you say aaaah! 2 Samuel 11
– And then good old Mary who wasn’t such a good girl when news got out that the virgin was preggers! Matthew 1:18-25
I can hear you say Haba I beta pass these girls na!
Truth be told, if the self-righteous, judging world had had a say in orchestrating Jesus’s birth and ancestry, only the most pious, honest, hardworking, virtuous, virginal, spiritual, role-model types would have made the cut but God had other plans. He chose the skankiest, dirtiest, hoe-liest, dishonest, looked down upon women he could possibly find and gave them unrivaled, eternal honor. Ironically the other 37 women who weren’t mentioned were most likely good women.
What am I trying to say?
You have gotta stop running from Him simply because someone has sold you a lie that you are too worthless for Him to love.
You are exactly the kind of woman He is looking for!
2. His grace is sufficient for you!
You definitely cannot do anything good by your own power. Human beings were made to do bad and enjoy doing bad. Paul in the book of Romans 7:15 says ” I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” And Paul was considered a very holy man! It’s only the Spirit of God in you that can make the difference. Morality is a flawed concept which only works within the safe confines of one’s comfort zone. The same people who consider themselves morally upright and having no use for so called spirituality end up being the same people who rationalize evil especially the secret-nobody can judge me cos- nobody can see me sort of sin. But you can rise above the habits, addictions and weaknesses.
His grace is sufficient for you, you don’t have to do it on your own. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
God has you covered this new year. No weakness or flaw is enough to floor Him or thaw the fire of His love for you.
Anytime you feel yourself falling of the wagon this new year, take a moment to thank Him for His grace and unending love. He really has you covered.
3. You can do and be anything you want this year!
Kick those limitations to the curb and tell the doubts in your head to stfu. This year you are gonna say YES I CAN! That’s your mantra and God is in full agreement. Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through HIM who gives me strength. Let Jesus be your strength this year and you would have the capacity to do all things- Formula 1 racing, mountain climbing, securing that deal, buying your own home, becoming an honest billionaire the list is as long as you can stretch your imagination. Jeremiah 32:7 says “Ah Sovereign Lord! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
Ladies if the man you loved, loved you to the moon and back and was gracious enough to love and help you every time you needed him regardless of your short comings and then he was the most powerful man on earth; nothing was too hard for him! WHAT SORT OF LIFE WOULD YOU LIVE? Can I hear someone say I woke up in a bugatti? How much more God Almighty who unlike humans never tires of forgiving you, who unlike humans never runs out of patience or love and who has the power to do and undo any and every situation you find yourself drowning in?
Girl please take a chill pill, this year is gonna be awesome! God has you covered.
Happy new year chutzpah fam,
Cheers to the best year ever!
2015 rocks…xoxo
